Getting the private sector involved is a crucial factor when seeking to improve the energy situation in developing countries. In May 2006, the GTZ advisory project "Energizing Africa" launched a cooperation project with E+Co, a public investment company that specialises in providing support for small and medium clean energy enterprises in developing countries.
About EUR 3 million will be invested in financial and technical support entrepreneurs who offer energy services to the rural poor in Africa. Through this approach, 130,000 people in Sub-Saharan Africa will be provided with access to modern energy.
