The government of Cameroon awarded AECOM Tecsult Inc. a US$71 million contract to study the cumulative environmental impact of the 56-MW Lom Pangar hydroelectric project in the Sanaga River Basin. The government seeks a cumulative impact study of the 46-meter-tall Lom Pangar Dam, including a reservoir of 540 square kilometers and storage of 6 billion cubic meters of water. In addition to generating its own electricity, Lom Pangar is expected to control flows to increase generation of downstream projects. The cumulative impact study is to cover the project's zone of influence as well as the Sanaga Basin and the area of eastern Cameroon in general. Cameroon previously indicated it planned studies for optimization of installation of five reservoir sites on the Sanaga River. Additional information: Project info News date: 12/01/2010 |
