Cameroon's government said on Tuesday it secured a US$542 million loan from the China Import-Export Bank to fund the construction of a 201 MW hydroelectric dam on the Ntem River. The loan will help the central African country to narrow its electricity capacity deficit, Cameroon Economy Minister Louis Paul Motaze said at a joint press conference with China's ambassador, without giving the terms of the loan. China has been investing heavily across Africa as it seeks to secure raw materials to feed its own rapid growth. Additional information: News date: 05/05/2011 |
