AfDB Supports Bioenergy Development in Sierra Leone

The African Development Bank is providing a €25 million loan ($36 million) to support a bionergy project in Sierra Leone, which also aims to improve livelihood opportunities and boost food security in the project area.
The Addax Bioenegy Project is expected to generate up to 960,000 tons of sugarcane annually that will be used to produce anhydrous ethanol for export and domestic consumption as well as up to 165 gigawatt-hours of electricity, of which 100 GW will be made available for the domestic market.
