First ever cookstove CDM - PoA registered in Africa

The UNFCCC has officially registered Atmosfair’s PoA on improved cookstoves in Nigeria. It is the first cookstove PoA in Africa and the second ever registered PoA in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The PoA will disseminate up to 100,000 cookstoves within the next 5 years, yielding emission reductions of up to 250,000 t CO2 annually. Under the PoA different types of improved cookstoves using wood can be counted.

Dr. Dietrich Brockhagen, CEO of atmosfair, expressed atmosfair’s satisfaction: “This is good news for the climate and for investors. Efficient cookstoves are a viable investment even in the current weak CER-market. This will be the more the case, since the Nigeria - PoA is also scheduled for Gold Standard registration. Atmosfair is a pioneer in promoting household technologies under the CDM. The registration of the PoA means an important milestone. We are ready to scale up our operations in Nigeria.

Atmosfair invites investors from financing institutions or the private sector to invest in CPAs or a group of CPAs under the programme, in return for Gold Standard CERs which alternatively can be re-purchased by atmosfair at premium prices. The registration takes effect from 1st January 2012.
