Niger's mobile services extended into rural areas using solar PV

As renewable energy applications continue to trend within the telecommunications industry, Niger becomes the latest country to see mobile connectivity via solar power.
Altobridge, a technology supplier to Orange Niger, announced that it completed the first phase of its mobile connectivity deployments in off-grid areas within Niger.

This technology has allowed over 50 rural communities throughout the country to have access to mobile service. The Orange network is powered via solar energy radio base stations that are equipped with an advanced satellite backhaul optimization technology.

Mike Fitzgerald, CEO of Altobridge said: 'The ability to connect remote communities and enterprises in a cost effective and sustainable manner is key to bridging the digital divide.'
