The Mozambican Council of Ministers has approved the resolution authorising negotiation of the project to build the Chemba hydroelectric plant on the Zambezi River in central Mozambique. The project, according to government spokesman Henrique Banze, is a public-private partnership involving state power company EdM and private Mozambican hydro power company Sheza. "The Chemba project aims to produce and sell electricity with a nominal maximum capacity of 1,000 megawatts, between Sofala and Tete provinces, along the Zambezi River. The project will provide power to meet the electricity needs in the central and northern regions of the country, including meeting projected growth in demand in these locations," Banzé said.
